Reading Week

Well I probalbly should have said something months ago but I guess I was a little busy. Schools back and I spent most of my time working on various projects leaving my personal ones on hold, I had a reading week so I thought this was a good time to say something. I recently begun working on a dolphin with a stamp face that I'm currently rigging and eventually animating aswell as a 1 minute video short about a mime that I'll be working on throughout the school year. While working on these new assignments I still managed to get some more work done on my harpy, (still not satisfied with the hair).

Also I'm planning to move my blog sometime in the future, not sure when but I'd like it to look a lot more professional than this one, (I'd like to do it when I get the habbit of actually updating this one).

Character Project Progress: June 27

Well I nkow it's been a while but I guess that's just how things work. I got caught up in unity plus I have work and I'm participating on a mod team so my blog was kind forgotten. I fineshed the body a couple weeks ago but I gotta warn you, if you are easily startled then don't view the pictures I'm about to show. Overall it took me about three tries to get this body looking right, I don't have many tools to work with here just the various tips I get on forums and videos on youtube so be nice about this please.

Quick Animation

I don`t know what is taking so long for my book on Unity to arrive and I was getting bored from the video tutuorials so I decided to do a quick rig and animation of the crab you saw last week. I was hoping to start my animations and rigs after I became familiar with how Unity works to avoid redoing my work but after waiting so long for my proper learning tools I just couldn`t help myself. I`ll most likely be remaking this animation in the future and quite possibly even the rig. The crab you see know has also changed and it will continue to change through-out the summer as I try to lower it`s poly count. I wasn`t even sure if I should have botherd to post this but I figured I could use this as an opertunity to update everybody on what I`m doing.

Idea

I want you to take a good look at his crab, cause eventually I will make it beautiful. I started working on my new project this morning and I came up with a good start for my crab that I plan on making a game for. To be honest I didn't model him on the spot, about a month ago I was sketching up crabs for a game play idea that I wanted to make happen and today I finally got bit by the motivation bug. Fortunately this bug bite wont be going away for a while cause I'm dedicated to this project, (I may be putting my character on hold for a while but I still have an update that I want to put up on this blog). I just ordered a book to help me learn up on Unity and I'm already refining my game play idea. I won't tell you what kind of game it will be yet but I'll post the art and animations for it here while you wait.

Character Project Progress: April 24

By now you can tell that the character is a girl, (I hope), but like I said this won't be a human. The hair looks wierd now but trust me this is only the first step you must take before achiving realistic hair/fur. I know it looks like I got very little done since my time in March but I actually did have a body almost done however it looked SO bad that I did not want to show you it, (I'm currently doing some study on female atonomy). I also put some teeth and a tounge in her mouth but you cant see it or at least not yet. That said after my studies on... female curves, (giggle), are done I'll get right on to showing you the body.

UDK Grave Yard

I'm on a role today :) Well actually I've been working on this for some time with the same team that I did the dance with. I'm responcible for about 1/4 of the animations/ static meshes you see in this video aswell as half of the camera work. I few things look crummy but we were learning about UDK while doing this so you can tell how far along we got closer tothe end of the video.

Rendered Dance - Virtual Insanity

That render went quicker than I thought... woot

The song is not mine it was sung by Jamiroquai and once more the rigs are not mine either, there from elevenSecondClub.com

I Just finished up a dance that my friends and I were working in. The rigs are not ours, they are from elevenSecondClub and have only had a few minor edits added to them. My friends, Warren Riparip and Takafumi Yamasaki worked on the blond dancer and the All-white dancer respectively, while I worked on both of the Eleven Rigs as well as make a few minor edits on the blond dancer. I was also in charge of positioning of the dancers and the camera work for this scene. Takafumi will do the Lighting and Renduring very shortly and after today we should be done... not satisfied but done :P

Lighting Practice

The contents in the scene aren't mine, they are Mr. Eassaf's... my teacher, I was just doing the lighting and positioning of the furniture. Normally I don't post school work on here unless there REALLY good but I get the feeling that this blog becomes quite barren when I'm at school.

Anyways I'll add more stuff real soon and as for the Character I've been working on.... iiit's still comming but I've did a few experiments with it and wasn't happy so I'll only show you the head and hair. Comming soon I promise.

Model Progress #1

Well yesterday I decided to dedicate some time to make a character for future animation projects. I got a lot done at the moment but I'm going to have to slow down as I'll be back in school very soon. Still I'll update my progress on my blog when I get a chance.I wonder if you can guess right about what this character is going to be. I'll give you a hint, It's not a human. I'm sure it will get easier to fugure out in the near future.

UDK Fun

I was playing around with UDK and found some cool features with fog and landscape. One thing led to another and I made this small island with some pre-existing objects in the content browser. I think I did a good job.

The Deep Sea Janglers

This is just something I made when I decided to force work upon myself. The fish look just like anglers but their glowing antenna thing is more loopy and is shaped more like a jelly fish. The little baby jelly fish is called 'Jellstar' and it looks like she thinks the fake jelly fish is her mother... oh my, that's so sad.

The Conclusion

I didn't want to tell the ending right away but it seems I may get marks deducted if I won't so here it is.

The short version: Our hero defeats the Leaders of both the Platni and the Matures causing a power vacuum and creating chaos on all sides until Platnommie takes control of the Platni and your formal rival takes control of the Matures. Platnommie tells her fellow Platni that even though they probably won't ever forgive the Clinklets for the hundreds of years of torture they've been through, they must endure it for the sake of moving forward to a less destructive future. The New leader of the mature tells him/her people to take a more difficult path into finding a new way to survive without eating platni, even if we loose many luxuries. In time things have calmed down but are still tense, we are left there with our own ideas to think about how life will turn out from then on.

Gamplay ideas

Gameplay

This will be an action adventure game for my fantacy game on the Wii, with heavy focus on exploration and landscaping. It will be played in an adjustable over the shoulder view.

The main tools that you will use are the Clinklet Arms. Controlled by the wiimote and nun chuck, the player uses the arms to grab, drill, clamp, shoot and perform many other functions for both combat and landscaping purposes. Throughout the game you will find more unique arms that can be attached and detached to help the player solve puzzles or make combat easier. You can only use two arms at a time.

The style of fighting is similar to that of wrestling. The main idea is to grab/hold-down your opponent or at least part of your opponent with one arm and attack with another. This is the most basic form of fighting however there are many other ways to fight such as throwing your foe or things at your foe, blocking or grabbing things for blocking, shooting, countering when your grabbed and more. The different arms you have allow for some different styles of fighting, for example, you can attach a arm designed to shoot needles on your left side and an arm to push enemies away on your right.

Fighting isn’t the only thing that your arms are used for, there are many things in the world that you will encounter and must use your hands to assist and repair instead of destroy to get passed them. As explained earlier, everything in this world whether there plants, animals or mountains, have eyes. If the eyes are happy, there might be good fortune or secrets around, maybe they’ll even give you things. If there angry or sad, there might be danger near by or maybe the plant/ object will even attack you. Sure you can ignore them and make your life more difficult in the future, or you can help them and reap in the rewards that follow. Sometimes you will be doing gardening to cheer up the bushes so they won’t feel alone, sometimes you’ll cut the dead branches off the tree to help it look more appealing to the sexy rock down by the lake, and sometimes you’ll be polishing a cave so it will stop collapsing on you and your friends when you go through it. In the end you’ll have a lot of good fortune as you perform these good deeds, the more kinds of arms you find, the more actions you can perform leaving you with a lot of side-quests to complete.

Your allies become a major feature throughout your adventure as well. They will usually stay at the riffraff camp offering assistance, items to sell, new information or just some fun little games that you can play on you spare time (alone or with friends). Some of these allies however will go out with you on your journeys to either assist you with fighting or give you an extra pair of helping hands for tasks like gathering or gardening. During the main storyline you will usually have to go along with certain characters as they are needed to help move the plot, however during the time when you are out doing things that don’t involve the plot you can choose up to two allies to go out with you. Your allies won’t be going out alone doing their own things, instead they will follow you when ask and perform their specific actions when asked. This is usually done by pressing a button or when a action sign of the character and the function he/she can do appears on the bottom of the screen. Besides the specific functions, your allies can attack other enemies, carry you or an object, or let you be carried by them. None of your allies have a health bar, instead they are ignored in a fight and when they do attack on your command, they can only be knocked out for a short time becoming useless until they self-recover.

More References

Just some more drawings to help visualize my world I'm creating.

Characters

These two are the main characters in your game. You choose one of them at the beginning to play as the Main protagonist throughout the story and the other will become your antagonist, an ally of the Matures and major enemy of the Riffraffs.

This is Platnommie, She finds you later in the game just after a boss fight. Unlike most of the Platni and Clincklets, Platnommie cares for your wounds disregarding the fact that your a 'natural' enemy to her. It is because of Plantommie that or protagonist starts to see the Platni as something other
than a food source.

The Riffraffs camp is full quirky characters that you recruit and rescue throughout the game. some of them are greedy and selfish rebels of the Mature, some of them are various plant animals and objects throughout the land, and some of them are former members of the mature.

Reference Pictures

These are some of the drawings I've been working on to help people see what I'm trying to tell.

These are the Platni, they grow layer after layer of these stump-like stems.

This is an Example of an evolved Clinklet, there called 'Clinkmen'. The clinkmen will usually have two legs and their pincers on there arms and head are unique from other clickmen. All the Clickmen will have eyes, this one is just an example of the body.

This is an example of an evolved Plani, this one in particular is called a 'Platfi'. The Platfi can float in the air and drop down like a spear on its prey. The platni above it's head represents how much health it has.

This cave is an example of some of the environments you will adventure through as you play. Notice how just about everything in there has eyes, (the rock-plants, the caves). Depending on how the eyes look may affect the environment itself. Imagine going through a cave to catch a boss, in a dead end you fight and defeat the boss only to dave damaged the cave in the process. The caves eyes turn angry and they start to chomp down on you. Now you have to escape the cave before your crushed to death.

Story: When the Game Starts

Were the Game Starts?

Now in the world that the Clinklets have shaped to their image, the life-giving plant called Platni has become scars; and for the sake of survival, the Clinklets have divided into two separate colonies. The far more powerful colony is made up of mature and responsible Clinklets, who in their opinion, is far more developed of the two groups. These Clinklets call themselves the MATURE and they have abandoned the people in their community who were irrational, greedy, immature, and anyone else who would weaken their chain of survival during these dangerous times.

The protagonist of this story was abandoned by the MATURE and was left to join the other community that calls themselves the RIFFRAFFS. Although most of the RIFFRAFFS are dying because they lack the basic teamwork skills to survive and the MATURES have the majority hold over the remaining Platni, our hero still tries his best to keep his team of greedy rejects together and steal whatever they can from the colony that left them all for dead. It was from theses acts of desperate theft that our hero uncovered a disturbing truth as to why the Platni is disappearing. It did turn out the platni were alive this whole time and just recently they are showing there eyes. Now they are unleashing their fury and eating the Clinklets in order to exact revenge for the hundreds of torment they had to endure. By eating the Clinklets they to have changed, (not to the point were they can only survive off Clincklet), and are forming their own individualism and culture. Our protagonist has to find a solution for the three colonies before they all start killing each other.
